Tuesday 20th January – Twenty Foot

Well returned to this water for another crack, and it was freezing cold yet again, although this time there was no fog!

Very slow again, and was moving round alot. I eventually found somewhere that looked promising as I could see prey fish dimpling the surface.

I gave it a couple of hours, but had nothing. However when I packed the float rod away, at the corner of my eye, I saw the surface erupt as a pike attacked a shoal of prey fish.  I saw it’s back come out of the water, and it looked decent. So the float rod came back out of my  car and I cast the roach deadbait, into the area where the fish attacked.

Five minutes later, the float bobbed and slowly disappeared beneath the surface.

Struck into the fish and was lucky to enough to bank a nice fish of around the 9ib mark.

Thats all the action I had all day, but better than nothing.

Will be making a few more trips, before the season is finished, to get yet another giant, fenland esox lucius!
