Friday 3rd January 2014 – Ely Ouse

**Happy New Year!!**

Went out on my first session of 2014 today. I had attended to head out into the fens, but due to the forecast of strong winds, I stayed local and fished the town stretch in Ely.

It was a very successful session, despite the conditions. The winds were very blustery and it was also a morning of heavy, blustery showers and the river was flowing at a fair old pace with plenty of weed.

Anyway, got the feeder rod out, first time since October. Using a one ounce feeder and a heavy quiver tip, succeeded in netting plenty of skimmers from under the boats. Fish a cast and bites all day. I also had a pike rod out. Very quite until mid afternoon. When I netted a 12.5ib fish on mackeral tail. Great day, despite being very hard.

I am going to attempt the fens again on Monday, but for the pike this time, weather permitting. If it is very windy, probably have another go in Ely with whats left of my bait.
