Saturday 23rd August – Twenty Foot

Well it has been a while, since I have had been able wet a net, due to work and family commitments.

Anyway I popped down to the drain, the night before and cleared a few swims out, and spotted a few cracking rudd on the surface, and plenty of bream and tench fizzing away. Had a feeling it would be a good days fishing, and I was right!

I fished with a mate, who had driven down from Suffolk for the occasion. He was buzzing, as it was his first trip in the fens, going after the summer species. We fished a stretch of the Twenty Foot drain, which is literally in the middle of nowhere. I wanted to take him to a place, that was very under pressured and wild, so he can get a proper fenland fishing experience.

A cracking day was had by us both. I had a nice bream, a few roach and a lovely perch. I also lost a nice tench, which was gutting.

Anyway, my mate broke two of his pb’s in one session. He had two tench. One was 4ib and the other just over 5ib. The bigger one was his pb. Both fish were immaculate. He also had a succession of rudd. One of which was just over a pound (his second pb).

The most successful methods were cage ground bait feeder with worm and maggot for the bream and tench, and waggler methods for the rudd. Overall a cracking day was had. We are both looking at heading back very soon, for another attempt at the summer species, and the very large pike and zander, that inhabit this stretch in the winter. Cannot wait!
