Friday 5th September – Ely Ouse

Have now started the evening sessions for the zander now the evenings are slowly drawing in.

Started off on the feeder and caught a few skimmers and roach. A large pike also took a liking to a skimmer, as I was winding it in on the feeder rod. Dropped it though, so didn’t see it unfortunetly.

As the light slowly disappeared, I cast out the zander rods. The runs started just at twylight. Had one fish take the bait, then the other rod went off. Cannot believe I lost two fish! Think it may of been a pack of small zander passing through, causing havoc amongst the silverfish shoals!.

After an hour or so, I hit into a screamer of a run. Got the fish in, and it turned out to be the prettiest little zander I have seen. Hooked cleanly in the scissors. Took the photo and let it go back to it’s little mates.

Not the busiest of nights, but at least I didn’t blank. The next zander session for me will be at ten mile bank next weekend. Staying two days, and one night so I should at least catch one! Fingers crossed.
