Saturday 18th October – Sunday 19th October – Cut Off Channel

As I said in my last post, had my first visit to the Cut Off Channel this year. Was a bit of a disaster!

Arrived with hardly any gas left in my cooker and no replacement cartridges. Left my bivvy groundsheet at home, so ended up sleeping with all the fenland creepy crawlies.

Just to finish the weekend off, I found a slug in my sleeping bag and stuck my face on one during my sleep, which decided to take residence on my pillow. Then due to the shock, the bed tipped up dropped me onto the floor right on top of another slug!

As for the fishing, it was very slow. Had a feeling it would be, as arrived to see no fish topping on the surface which is usual for this time of year. Also other anglers had blanked all day. I started off with the feeder during the day, had a few knocks and a perch the size of my index finger. Thats all.

During the night I had the zander rods out. Had one beep all night, which was a liner. The bait hadn’t been touched, when I wound the rods in to pack up on the Sunday.

Apart from the slug experience and lack of bites, it was still pretty as it always is and great to get out. Will be keeping a close eye on it and return again, when the prey fish move in to there winter quarters with the predators close by, when the temperatures eventually start to drop.   Hoping to get out for one evening next week, then it’s time for the Marie Predator Cup 2014, which I have entered again. Cannot wait and a great day out!
