First things first: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Well fancied a break from the fens on this occasion and had a go for the Chub on the Middle reaches of the River Cam. I also brought along a couple of friends I met at the PAC meetings I go to each month in Cambridge, who also fancied something different and a go for the chub.
We got to the river, and it was looking very coloured and high. At first we thought we would struggle, but things soon changed. I was using cheese paste and my two PAC friends, were using a variety of baits and were catching.
This was a roving session, but eventually we found the fish.
We found a perfect tree lined stretch, which was full of slacks. We were casing into the slacks, and getting a bite a cast, after downsizing hooks, we started to get into the fish.
We started catching some quality roach, but the chub seemed quite elusive.
My friends packed up around 3pm, but I carried on until darkness. I returned to the first swim of the day. Just as the light was fading, I started getting into the chub. Succeeded in catching two small chub, and lost a bigger one in the roots.
Overall a hard days fishing, but in great company.
Will be back again soon!
